About the Event
#SingForYourParks is an annual 6 week-long performing arts initiative spearheaded by LYPMumbai and directed by Tristan K. It is community-building through singing together and encourages local residents to enjoy parks in a new manner. There's no dearth of artistic talent in Mumbai, but with performance space becoming increasingly scarce, this initiative hopes to provide a partial solution by encouraging the growth of good quality arts performances in public open spaces.
LYPMumbai believes that citizen involvement in the creation, activation and maintenance of Public Open Spaces is the backbone of a healthy society and democracy. We also strongly believe in the need to encourage the creative arts and harness its power to advocate for change.
Tristan is especially passionate about mentoring beginner singers in developing technique, musical skill and confidence through collective experience and learning. In this capacity, he works as a freelancer, teaching choir workshops for various organisations.
For the last seven years, Tristan conducted a wide range of choirs, from student choirs to church choirs, acappella as well large orchestral works, from gregorian chant to the most contemporary. He is the founder of Boeuf Majeur, an ensemble specializing in combining vocal music with modern performance practices, theatre, poetry and electronic music and Kokomo Bombay, a new choir in Mumbai.

FAQs
1. What does the fees go toward?
LYPMumbai is a volunteer-driven non profit initiative. We want to encourage a culture of fairly compensating our artist-directors and accompanying artists for their work. All contributions will go towards paying our choir conductor a fair stipend for his time and expertise, supporting artists, rehearsal venue fees, printed material and amplification. If you are or know someone who would be interested in sponsoring any part of this project, please get in touch!
2. I think this a great idea, but I don't want to sing. Can I contribute in any other way?
Come for the Open Rehearsal! We want to keep the format a bit of a surprise, but we promise you it is going to be a fun morning! If you play an instrument, we'd love to hear from you. You can also help by spreading the word or making a contribution which we will spend towards adding more elements to the gigs like a percussionist, a professional soloist, etc.
3. I have never really sung in public before. Can I join?
Yes! Shower crooners, beginners, amateurs, professionals, all are welcome! Tristan is especially good with mentoring beginner singers and the idea is to support each other in learning a new skill and build your confidence to perform in public!
4. Why should I join?
Apart from the many benefits of joining a choir, including mental health, confidence, aerobic, a sense of belonging, join us because you care. We are all keenly aware of the many challenges that lie ahead of us, not just as a city but as a planet (climate crisis, plastic pollution, traffic, etc etc.) LYPMumbai strongly believes that our best chances at tackling these is to never lose our ability to HAVE FUN and do things TOGETHER.
#SingForYourParks checks both those boxes.
We promise you won't regret it.
Have more questions? Come to the open rehearsal and all shall be answered!
